Choreographer / Improvisor Teresa Smith, whose  background includes anthropology, visual art, writing and somatics, collaborates from concept to stage with artists, designers, musicians, writers, directors and the community to create truly collaborative works.   

Teresa Smith has performed at Dance Space / St. Mark's, Joyce Soho Theater, Dance Theater Workshop, Jim Kempner Gallery, Marquee Nightclub and P.S.122 in New York, The Cowell Theater and Theater Artaud (S.F.), Naropa Institute (CO), The Washington D.C. Improvisation Festival, The Seattle Festival of Alternative Dance and Improvisation (WA), and at avant garde venues in the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain.  

Ms. Smith is graduate of Bennington College and the European Dance Development Center, as well as a certified Dance Meditation Instructor, Yoga Teacher and Thai Yoga Bodywork practitioner.    After completing post secondary studies in choreography and performance at the European Dance Development Center Ms. Smith toured with La Fura des Baus in Europe, and then returned to the US to dance with The Ellen Webb Dance Company, Stephanie Skura's Cranky Destroyers, Joan Laage Dappin' Butoh, Yvonne Meier, David Hurwith and Lance Gries.  In the 90's on the west coast she co-founded Underbelly Dance Theater with Brechin Flournoy and Construction Site with Lila Hurwitz and Sheri Cohen.  When travels took her to NYC near the end of the decade she founded Teresa Smith Dance, through which she continues to create collaborative, multi arts performance events.  Recently she has been working with producer, writer, artist, photographer Michael McKenzie ( www.americanimageart.com ) to create site-specific, collaborative, multi-arts performance events at museums, galleries, nightclubs and for TV, film, music video and stage.
